Re: First class
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 12:38 AMBreathe deeply - count your breath. Focus on breathing. Release the tension.
Take a nice healthy breath before speaking, and then see how long you can speak continuously before having to draw another breath,... getting the most out of each breath.
Focusing your mind on these excercises to help your presentation will take your mind off other things and onto coming from a good point from within yourself.

Re: First class
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 7:36 AMHave a sense of humor. It's not going to be perfect. Yoga classes are a leaning experience for everyone involved.
Take time to be silent when it feels that the class needs it. I often find that the moments when a teacher is quiet, the students connect to the practice a little deeper.
When you feel yourself getting scattered, just find your breath.
And remember that you are serving the students. Open your self to them and give them what you can.
Good Luck! -

Re: First class
Sat, April 11, 2009 - 1:04 AMThank you for your advice everyone. It was quite helpful. I was kind of anxious because I was not as early as I had hoped, but I got there in time and had time to focus/meditate before the scheduled start time...and then no one was there! Ack! So, I just started doing yoga for me like any other day...and then one person came in. So my first day of teaching was one on one. I really liked that.
I am teaching for my fellow students on campus, so I am not so surprised about the turn out. I am sure we more will come as the quarter progresses.
I won't be around next week to teach, but after that, it's every friday. I am starting to really look forward to it.
Thanks again for all of your insight and support!
