I am considering teaching a Pre-Natal Specific BellyDance / Yoga Movement Class. I have studied quite of bit of Pre-Natal Movement and yoga these last 8 months and fully believe there is a need for a class such as this to get pregnant women moving at a appropriate pace and movement ability of women whom are pregnant. I am not Yoga certified however I am hoping to enroll into a year long program this fall. I have BellyDanced for many years performing and teaching and feel fully fine with the BellyDance portion. As well I feel fully fine helping pregnant women and understanding movements that are beneficial for pregnancy, their child, breathing, bonding, back pain, swollen ankles, balance and movements that can help with labor.
I guess I am wondering is there anything specific you would like to see in a course such as this? Any special consideration or concern? Any input or ideas you have would be helpful. Thank you, Indigo

Re: I am considering teaching a Pre-Natal Movement class
Fri, January 30, 2009 - 6:32 PM......concern being ability to adapt specific traditional motions over to this special condition.
No doubt rythmic motion teamed with muscular contraction - decontraction, is beneficial . -

Re: I am considering teaching a Pre-Natal Movement class
Mon, February 9, 2009 - 11:43 AMYou might find some helpful ideas by watching a few pre-natal yoga dvds.
In general, poses that open the hips and provide relief for the lower back are great ideas. Avoid having your students lie directly on their backs if you include savasana -- instead, have them lie on one side with a blanket or bolster between their knees. I know there's a certain side of the body that it's recommended pregnant women lie on, but I don't remember if it's the right side or the left side. -
